Sharing experiences with others who are walking a similar path can greatly benefit our growth. In group companioning, four or five people commit to meeting for a defined series of sessions to explore shared aspects of their journey. My role in these gatherings is to facilitate, to hold the space and to encourage participants’ sharing. Sessions begin with the group gathering and focusing, followed by each member speaking as they feel comfortable. Only after a person has finished sharing are comments invited from other participants.
Groups form around a common interest, such as caregiving (especially dementia caregivers), illness, or aging.
